I had the pleasure of shooting this beautiful mom expecting her 2nd little girl within weeks. I visited her the week before our shoot to check out the space we’d be working in and determine the best time for pretty light. I came back a week later and the walls were turquoise!!, she painted it the day before :) I loved it, seemed to go really well with our shoot. Thank you mom and family for another great time!

MONTH #8
APRIL | NEGATIVE SPACE
Negative space is this month’s theme and it’s one of my favorites :).
Not sure if I always interpret it correctly, but here’s my take on it–check out Ashley’s blog for hers–enjoy!

SHARON | JUST MARRIED
I had the pleasure of second shooting Sharon’s wedding with the lovely and talented Pinky a few months back. A few weeks after Sharon said her vows, Pinky shot her bridals downtown and had me join her just for fun and it was fun, always is with these two! Thank you ladies for a nice time, I’m sure we’ll do it again sometime :) Check out Pinky’s post here!
These were shot a couple months back and I failed to mark my roll of black and white HP5. I just developed them the other day, guessing I had shot it at 1600, but still not positive, they are a bit darker than I had expected, I’ll bring a pen next time. The color ones are Portra 800, lovely, although I’m not sure why a couple have a more green tone to them and yet others more warm, who knows, I’ll bring a pen next time :)
MARCH | REPETITION
This months circle theme is repetition, I had the brilliant plan of waiting until the last couple of days before the day to post to start shooting. I had a great time with my black and white roll of film from 1991, only problem was when I went to develop it, it was so curly from being wound up for over 20 years that I couldn’t get it loaded on the reel–boo. I’ll take it in to the lab and have them do it and I’ll post those later. For now, here’s what I could gather from some recent rolls, some of which has been posted before, some of which has not–enjoy! Now continue the circle tour and head over to Stephanie’s blog for more repetition :)

THEY DO, AGAIN
I had the pleasure of photographing my brother and sister-in-laws recent 10 year vow renewal on a beautiful evening in the sand.
May you both enjoy countless more years of love and joy to come!

FEBRUARY | LONG EXPOSURE
This months post is on the subject of long exposures. Several months back I’d been taking weekly excursions around the island with my girls with a different intention each time. A couple of occasions my purpose was to practice shooting long exposures, here are a few from our outings, the last one a little behind the scenes shot :). I need to make the time to do this more, it’s so fun for me to take my notepad and filters, assorted films and cable release and play around, trying get at least one shot on a roll of 16, hope to have more to post soon as I did shoot a bit more this month, just haven’t developed them yet. Now head over to Sasha Prince’ blog to see her take on this month’s theme :). Thanks for visiting!
JANUARY | WATER
I’m joining some other local photographers in a monthly photo post, this first month the theme is ‘water’. If you’re checking out the other posts in the group, you’ve likely seen a few great water shots, here’s mine–I love this moment, I love my family :) Now head over to Sasha Prince’s blog and check out her water shots :) See you next month!
FILM IS NOT DEAD | MAUI
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to head over to Maui for Jonathan Canlas’ Film Is Not Dead workshop. I’d met Jon last November doing a 1 on 3 half-day workshop and was thrilled when he announced earlier this year that he’d be having one on Maui, I knew I wanted to be there! I’d highly recommend going to one if you’re into film, or weddings, or just like to take photos and want to improve your shooting skills :)
Sister-in-law Ashley and I boarded a morning flight the day before the workshop started and we met Jon and his assistant Joe once we got off the plane–Jon grabbed an instant shot of us using Joe’s new camera :)
Each day of the 3-day workshop we started with lectures from Jon and even one from Richard Photo Lab. All of them packed with tons of information. Good stuff. Each afternoon we had models to shoot, day 1–engaged couples, day 2–families, day 3–wedding couples. The days went by too quickly, but were filled with amazing information, great food and even better people. Wendy opened her home to host the workshop, and an incredible home it is! I’m so thankful I got to have a mini vacation from my loud kids, met lots of new friends and most of all had fun!
We even made the trip up to Haleakala on day 3, at 3am, but it was definitely worth it!

A HUGE mahalo to Jon for sharing all that he does, so kindly and openly and funnily, to Wendy and her family for hosting and opening your home with us all, all the awesome and fun models, Della from Dellables.com for the beautiful florals, Cheryl from MauiWeddingCakes.com for the amazing and tasty cake, and Sandra at AMauiWeddingDay.com for all her help in planning! Everything was perfect :)
(all images minus the top 4 were taken using my mamiya 645af and 80 1.9)
